Hi! I am Logan Edgelow, Director of Growth Strategy at Kulin (pronounced Koo • lin), a digital marketing agency focused on helping build scalable strategies across all channels. We have recently joined the Versett group of global companies. Together, we will build amazing apps and products, while ensuring our clients launch effectively in the market, better than ever before.

We're looking for a Director of Email and SMS Marketing to lead our team! This role will be focused on helping DTC brands build and optimize effective email and SMS marketing strategies in Klaviyo, with an emphasis on driving strategy, retention initiatives, and using data to make informed optimization decisions.

This is a full-time, remote position within Canada.

The successful candidate will lead a team of Email Marketing Strategists, Copywriters, and Designers and be responsible for driving client strategy, overseeing resourcing and team capacity, empowering the team, and managing client relationships. They'll help introduce and improve processes within the company, analyze and track data to maximize overall performance and achieve goals, communicate performance to clients, mentor staff, and continue to grow their own expertise in retention marketing. They will work with other leaders at Kulin to set a positive example for team members in terms of company culture, values, and knowledge sharing, while helping drive agency growth.

The Opportunity:

  • Lead a team of email strategists, copywriters, and designers driving strategy and overseeing implementation for all clients
  • Manage client-facing communication in Slack, via email, and on calls with support from Account Managers and Email Strategists
  • Work as a point of escalation for Email Strategists and offer support as needed
  • Conduct audits for incoming clients and develop 30/60/90 day plan for deliverables and KPIs based on highest priority action items
  • Oversee Klaviyo account strategy and direction for clients
  • Flow strategy
  • Campaign & segmentation strategy
  • List growth strategies
  • SMS strategy
  • Ongoing monitoring of performance metrics
  • Retention strategy including Shopify tech stack recommendations
  • Higher level eCommerce strategy and channel considerations
  • Build and maintain reporting weekly + monthly processes for clients
  • Monitor department profitability and implement optimizations and new processes, as needed
  • Make impactful, data-driven decisions to help clients achieve identified key performance indicators, focusing on retention
  • Stay informed on new retention strategies, apps, privacy legislation, etc. and ensure Kulin's tactics are up-to-date
  • Support agency marketing efforts with content creation and case studies on occasion
  • Drive staffing, pricing, and service offering discussions for the department working with Head of Operations and Head of Strategy to make decisions
  • What you bring to the table:

  • 4-6 years of email marketing experience, preferably in the DTC eCommerce space using Klaviyo x Shopify
  • A strong understanding of Klaviyo functionalities, including in-depth automation strategy, is required
  • Strong understanding of common Shopify tech stacks for retention (Okendo, Junip, Wonderment, KnoCommerce, Gorgias, etc)
  • Willingness to mentor team members and invest in the overall growth of the team
  • Ability to identify highest impact items and prioritize competing tasks effectively
  • Confidence in delegating work to team members and enabling them to succeed independently
  • Ability to look at the bigger picture and make decisions and recommendations impacting overall brand retention for clients
  • Strong written skills and a basic understanding of effective email design
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions based on Klaviyo metrics, Google Analytics, Shopify performance, etc.
