Job Description
The Estimator Print & Production, is responsible for preparing direct mail
quotes based on available specifications, requirements, and examples provided
by the internal Account Teams/clients, utilizing Microsoft Excel and Internal
estimating databases. This includes selecting appropriate paper, outside
components, and internal manufacturing (print, lettershop & bindery) costs
as well as estimated production throughput speeds by machine and/or process.
The Estimator ensures that all print & mail product costs are accurately
accounted for in each estimate, based on the specifications provided by the
Account Team/client, and generates a written Direct Mail Agreement for all
projects.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for accurately executing detailed estimates while interacting
and communicating with internal clients, partners, suppliers, and internal
resources.
Prepare pricing in a timely and accurate manner via internal database
and/or excel-based worksheets.
Analyze project specifications and prepare cost estimates for time, cost,
materials, and labor.
Evaluate all methods available for producing a project and provide quotes
that best utilize our equipment and manufacturing capabilities, or best
align with existing pricing policies.
Develop and maintain detailed rate cards and/or historic pricing records
for established clients. Verify that final pricing aligns to existing
models and prior estimates.
Offer suggestions regarding production techniques or materials to lower
costs and/or for improving job quality and communicate to Print Production
and Account Teams.
Obtains vendor quotes for use in estimating and cost-effective purchasing,
in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
Consult with internal manufacturing supervisors, outside resources, and
suppliers to produce a comprehensive estimate (when applicable).
Revise estimates as needed due to specification changes.
Review estimates with management when necessary or as requested.
Communicate workload to management and keep apprised of the status of
estimates.
Performs any other responsibilities that management identifies for this
position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating or project planning in the
digital print industry, with background in direct mail and lettershop
preferred.
Intermediate skill level and comfort with MS Excel is required
Extremely strong organization skills with an innate attention to detail
Must possess good analytical, critical thinking, and follow-up skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to track and manage multiple tasks and
priorities in an occasionally fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills to work with people at
all levels within and outside Epsilon in a professional manner
Solid working knowledge of production print, data processing, imaging
technologies, lettershop & postal regulations
Background in purchasing or domestic sourcing is a plus
Ability to maintain positive, professional demeanor at all times
Ability to meet aggressive deadlines while balancing multiple priorities
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Digital print experience, either in estimating or program
management/customer service.
Direct Mail and/or Lettershop Experience, either in estimating or program
management/customer service.
Intermediate-level Excel Skills
